Sew Determined: February Edition

Last month I admit I didn't feel much like sewing so I put off doing any project until the las minute. This ment that I didn't have much time to do a project and I am a pretty slow sewer so it had to be something really simple, enter in the Dishtowel Dress.

It took me about 30 minutes to go from towels to dress. It would take a more proficient sewer only about 10-15 minutes, hintz the name 10 minute Dish Towel Dress. This dress can also be made adorably with bandannas.

Here is the dress modeled on my wee Phoebs.  I know it is a bit too long, but she'll grow into it.

I don't know how people always show pictures of their toddlers/children posed so cutely. This was the best picture I could get in 2 days of her wearing the dress. My other picture options are also shown: crying Phoebe or tantrum ball Phoebe.

March's sewing adventure will be the girls Easter dresses: The Sweet Dress.  Here is a sample picture of the pattern I am using; I am hoping my two little purple dresses come out as well as this picture.

4 Months Old

Can you believe it? These twiners are 4 months old already. Time flies and they are growing like crazy!  Here are their most recent stats:

Joshua David: 

15.11 lbs-  75% (for boys)

24.4 in tall

Camille Cossette: 

12.14 lbs -25% (for girls)

24.1 in tall

Look at these cute bugs together.  Josh is going to be the BIG brother for two sisters soon enough. 

Note the poll on the side of the blog, you can weigh in on when you think Josh will be heavier than his oldest sister (Phoebs- current weight 19.12 lbs with 2 shirts and a diaper).

Grandma's Cookie Party

Every year grandma Ferguson has a Valentine cookie party where all the kids decorate their own sugar cookies with frosting and candies. This year I was excite to participate because it was really the first year that Phoebe could understand what was going on and participate. Her favorite part of the party was eating the frosting and licking the sprinkle container. Oh well maybe next year she will get the whole decorating the cookie part.

As is always, the case the twins slept through most of the event.

At the end Josh woke up and licked a cookie or two.

V-Day Countdown

If you have been reading this blog you know that I have been trying to do many different fun things for Cory and I such as dates and this Countdown to Valentines Day, once again another idea from the Love, Actually blog. This was a fun way to have a little celebration every day. In fact when the 15th of Feb came I was a bit sad we had no more cards to pull.

Here are a few of the things we did as part of the countdown:

Heart attack a door in the house and write things we loved about each other in the hearts. I decorated the head board doors and Cory did our bedroom door (we still have these up, I don't want to take them down).

Make or buy a Valentine for each other with $1 or less. Cory made the heart card and I made the M&M card.

These pictures are two more things Cory did for me. The first one was, do something nice for each other. For his nice thing he finally (after only 3 1/2yrs) installed my hideaway drawer under the bathroom sink. For my nice thing, I cleaned all the fuzzballs off his UofU pants (not pictured). The second picture was a love note we had to write for each other. Cory used conversation hearts to write my love note (it looks a bit special now, because Phoebe got to it before I got it and licked off most of the messages or just plain ate the heart). My love note for Cory (not pictured) was written on the shower walls with shower crayons.

I loved doing everyday of this countdown and even Cory got into the spirit and came up with some really cute and creative gifts. We will definitely be doing this again next year!

V-Day in the Fergy Home

This year for Valentines because Phoebe was older we were able to do more fun activities. We made/colored valentines. Although due to the fact that they has suckers in them Phoebe could not bare to part with any, so sorry if you never received one.

We also made our traditional Valentines trail from the door to the gifts, every person has their own candy trail. There are four trails in this pic but Phoebe's was made out of M&Ms and they don't show well in this picture. Phoebe had M&Ms the twins shared a Conversation Heart trail Cory's was made out of Reese's hearts and I had a Hersey Kisses trail.

Here was what awaited everyone at the end of the trail.

Phoebe was fun with the trail this year because she was thrilled to have her door opened up and see Ms on the ground. She immediately started shoving all of them into her mouth along with everyone else's candy trails. This year Phoebe received princess dress ups, she got made we could not open the box up fast enough for her. As you can see I had a hard time getting s good pic of her. This was one of the only non blurry pictures I could get.

This was awaited Cory and I at the end of our trails. I made Cory a Reese's bouquet with a $25 gift card to Braza Grill. I also dyed some snow with Phoebs and took the pic of her standing next to her message to daddy. Lastly but not least I gave Cory Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but hid this one on the fridge so it was a bonus surprise when he went to get Phoebe some milk later that morning. Before you think we spent way too much I will let you in on a little secret... our budget was only $20 and I didn't cheat, except for $2-3 dollars on shipping. Cory get me the movie Serendipity, I have always wanted that one, and tickets to a local theater called Desert Star which is a legendary dinner playhouse in Salt Lake and a must do I have never done. We will be seeing Twi-lite, a spoof on the movie Twilight. I am super excited to go.

For breakfast we enjoyed heart shaped strawberry pancakes.I made them super thick, but they still tasted great. For dinner we had spaghetti with heart shaped meatballs, but you couldn't tell the meatballs were heart shaped so they are not pictured.

On one last side note Grandma Potts sent Phoebe some stamp looking stickers in her V-day gift...this is what she chose to do with them. Little to say she possessed those stickers for a very short while.

Some of our Favorite Things

Since the addition of our two newest members, getting our of the house isn't so common, so we now have found some new favorite things.

For the twiners they do very little so it seems that their favorite things do do are sleep (as Josh is reverently demonstrating) and play. Both of the wee ones now hold and shake their rattles very well, much better than Phoebe ever did.

As for Phoebe she spends her days waiting for the garbage truck to pass and playing dress-ups. Every truck that Phoebe now hears pass our house she announces to us that it's a Garbage Truck. I usually correct her by saying that is only only a normal truck, except on Wednesdays when the Garbage Truck really does come by.

Traumtic FHE Lesson

Since the twins have been around and Phoebe has entered the terrible 2s, we have notice she does not share well with others. To try and improve her sharing skills we thought we would try and take a whack at giving a sharing lesson for FHE. It did not turn out so well and was the most traumatic lesson Phoebe had ever been subjected to, although Cory and I thought it was a bit funny.

Sew Determined

This year Cory and I set a few new New Years Resolutions besides the general I will work out more & read my scriptures more kind that are the standards for every new years. We are so far on track for our new goals which are to have one date a month, to attend the temple once a month, and for me, to sew one new project a month. This year one of my biggest goals is to learn how to sew. I can do the basics of a "straight" line seam, well mine aren't always straight, but I would like to sew better. So I have scoured the internet and found several projects and free patterns I plan on making this year...I'm very excited to work on this goal. For January I started on something very simple, a burp cloth. Mainly because I had a baby shower to go to and I needed a gift and I found this very cute idea. You can see how mine turned out. Up close they are not perfect seems but this luckily is a very forgiving pattern.

Below you can see I used three different colors, I made 6 burp cloths in all.

I am currently sewing together 12 little boy burp cloths out of receiving blankets we never used, because of their small size, so if you are having a boy soon you know what you will be receiving from me.  On a side note I also made a new style of binki clip.  I don't think it is as cute as the other I use to make, but they are a lot more durable!

Thirty, Flirty & Thriving

Last week (Jan 26th) was my 30th B-day. You remember when you were little 30 seemed to be so old? Well I'm there now and I am pretty sure I am not on deaths door quite yet. In fact, I don't plan to have my midlife's crisis for another 10-20 years still.

I had wanted a larger George Forman grill, because on our old one I could only cook one hamburger paddies at a time so we would have to eat in shifts. This new grill is the largest one they make (144sq in), outside of the outdoor BBQ grill. I broke it in on Sat. night by making Elk Burgers (the Elk was a gift from Cory's boss, not like I normally have that on hand).

This is Phoebe desperately trying to rewrap my gift up. She was so distraught that I took the princess wrapping apart.

After I took Phoebs to the Dr. for her H1N1 shot (we also weighed her there and she was 19.12 lbs with 2 shirts and a diaper still on) we stopped and grabbed McD's for dinner. I had been craving their $0.89 hamburgers for over a week.

For my "cake" Cory got Cold Stone Ice cream cupcakes. Look, one cupcake for every decade of my life. By the way they were excellent cupcakes! I had been dreading this birthday for awhile, but I just have to remind myself I guess its better to be starting up the hill instead of under it.

3 Months Old
