Babies On Board

Yesterday was the one week birthday of our newest additions, Camille (Cami) & Joshua (Joshie). They were born Thursday, October 22nd, Cami came out first at 8:02 am weighing 5.0lbs and measuring 18 ½ in long. Josh was the second out at 8:04am weighing 6.14 lbs and measuring 19 in long.

As a perk of delivering at Alta View Hospital (the orphan child of hospitals, as the one of the nurses described it) we were treated with a very soft full length robe and a dinner date night in our room. On another side note this hospitals also has some of the nicest nursing staff ever.

Because of the Swine Flu scare the hospital rules changed and you can only have two visitors at a time and NO children under 14, so unfortunately Phoebs had to wait to meet her siblings for 4 days, but it was no loss to her, because Grandma & pa Potts came to stay with her and they brought Phoebs’ beloved teacup poodles with them.

It has taken Phoebs some time to adjust, but she is starting to be a very cute & loving big sister.

Terrible Twos Already

As of October 12th our wee Phoebs turned the dreaded “Terrible Two.” To document the milestone Uncle Davey took Phoebs to the international peace gardens for some pictures.

For the most part Phoebe has been the same ole' high energy curious toddler as ever, but every once and a while she applies her high energy to bad doing...the sad part is 1) this isn't our house , it's Grandma Fergy's & 2) This isn't the fist time this has happened, it is the 2nd time this month. To clean her off we have to vacuum her whole body, even her hair.

D-Week is Upon Us

At the end of this pregnancy we have had to frequent the Drs office twice a week of various appts and tests. This last Thursday was our bi-weekly ultrasound, that's right I said bi-weekly. I enjoy these appts the most because you get to see the wee ones, but unfortunately I learned that ultrasound techs are only allowed to measure babies once every 3 weeks, so mostly we just check their positions and heartbeats. This is nice, but I am always most eager to see how they are growing, so I was especially excited that last Thursday was finally our 3 wk appt. (Note: Three wks ago, Josh weighed 5.1 lbs and Cami was 4.13 lbs, an above normal weight for 1 baby no less twins.) Going in to this appt Cory and I had guessed that Josh would be about 6 1/2 lbs and Cami would be around 6 lbs because we were told to expect in the last couple months of pregnancy that each baby would gain about 1/2 lb each week. Apparently this is only true for babies and not heifers, which I am apparently carrying. Josh's measurements showed him to weigh 7.6 lbs and Cami as 6.14lbs. YIKES, Do the math! I am carrying 14lbs worth of babies; no wonder my legs and hips rebel when I try using them. I guess it had always been portrayed to me that twins were suppose to be small, but that apparently that is a fallacy, because our fatties will be finally joining us on the morning of Thursday Oct. 22nd weighing of between 7-8 1/2 lbs each.

Sew Adventurous

As I have been on bed rest for the last 8 wks it has given me a ton of time to surf the web for cute crafts ideas. I get inspired to make new items all the time, which drives Cory crazy because I always need to go to a craft store for supplies. My newest inspiration has been in the sewing department, which I admit is one of my weakest areas, but I was bored and feeling bold so I tried something new. I kept it simple with learning how to make fabric yo-yos and fabric flowers.

I then went on to sew a very simple sundress I found on the web. I was able to use mostly fabric that I had on hand with the exception of a new accent fabric, which I had to justify getting by explaining that it would be a birthday dress for Phoebs. The dress took me 2 half days to sew, but I am very slow and rather inexperienced when it comes to reading and applying sewing instructions. I am sure it would take more experienced sewers a only couple of hours to put together. The finished product was so darling on the hanger, but when I went to put it on Phoebs it drowned her.

I guess I should have made it a bit more petite for my wee one. I feel it fits her no better than if I had cut some holes in a giant garbage sack and stuck it on her, hints why I so lovingly now refer to Phoebs' new birthday dress as a fancy garbage sack. Oh well, luckily Phoebs is cute enough to make even a fancy garbage sack look cute.

Our baby Phoebs is TWO!

On Monday we celebrated our baby's 2nd birthday. It is hard to believe she is two already, the last year flew by! We started the day off early, as she unfortunately refuses to sleep past 5:30am anymore.

We started the party off with opening presents, but sadly she was more interested with the butterflies I drew on the window than opening any gifts.

After gifts and birthday pancakes (pancakes with extra whip cream on top) Phoebs got dressed in a new birthday outfit, complete with her birthday bow that is only put in commission, but once a year.

Phoebe & I then headed to the grocery store to pick out birthday cupcakes; I am too lazy/large to stand & take the time to make/decorate any at this point. The cupcakes we ended up with were chocolate minis with sprinkles. For her birthday dinner, Phoebe's suggestion was, "Nope" so an executive decision had to be made, which was cardboard pizzas, usually a favorite of hers.

After dinner was the exciting cupcakes and candles. She only ended up eating a bit of the frosting & all of the sprinkles. Hints why we only bought the mini cakes.

I was surprised that she understood our directions to blow out the candles and then kept with it until they both were out.

We loved celebrating every second with our cute babes and are so glad to have her as part of our family!!

Service Opportunities

After listening to President Monson's talk about service, during General Conf., our family took turns giving service to one another. Cory started by doing a double service. First Phoebe got her daily dose of painted sparkle nails and second he volunteered to do it so I didn't have to painfully get down on the bathroom floor.
For Phoebe's service opportunity, she found some lotion in my drawer and rubbed it on my feet which were hanging off the bed.

For my service opportunity I have not yet forcibly tried to induce labor on the couple of fatties that are currently and severely invading my space. If you ask me that is the greatest gift I can give, especially when you consider the fact that I am only 60 in tall and the fatties have now made me 57in around. That's right, if I grow only 3 more inches, I will be a square.
All this service around the house was so tiring for both Phoebe and daddy that it had to be immediately followed up with some rest time.

The Waiting Game

Here we are in wk 35 of the twiners incubation time and wk 6 of bed rest. At this point we are as ready as possible and are just playing the waiting game. Yesterday's Drs. apt yielded a wee bit of good news, however, I am measuring about 44 cm prego (40cm is a normal for one full term baby) and due to my short stature can not grow much more. Dr. Tanner predicted that we only have about 1 wk, 2 at the very most, to go.
Last weekend we finished the nursery and about 1 hr after finishing I began to have contractions. This got us all excited, but after an hour turned out to be fruitless. We found out at that Monday's apt it was most likely just due to Baby "B"- Joshie, doing a 180 to match his fully breech sister. Naughty babies!

As I have been playing countless hr of Freecell, Phoebe has been livin' it up with Grandma Fergy. She practices her big sister stroller pushing skills, which is you ask me are still terrifying.
Phoebe also practices her penmanship daily on the bathroom scale. Don't ask us why she likes this spot, It is either because think she just assumes it is a mini stool made for her, or she is very self conscious about her recent 1 lb weight gain.
After all the work that Phoebe does around Grandma's house, she normally comes home to crash for the afternoon. On some occasions, however, she & Grandma are so tired from canning, destroying & then cleaning up every room that mid morning naps are just a necessity.

As you can see, because we are all sitting around with so much anticipation it is just wearing us out.

Toys, Toys, Toys

As we are coming up on Phoebe's second birthday, we are looking to find a some new age appropriate toys for her. This task always proves to be more difficult than it sounds. Every time we buy something we thing she would really love, she never gives it two looks. We therefore have resorted to taking her to the store with us to see what she will play with. Her selections, however, always turn out to be totally odd, as is proof by the above pictures. She loved these strange balls and squid looking creatures and wanted to carry about 6 of them around with her. She was totally devastated when we did not buy them, but quickly got over it when we got in the car and I gave her a mint. I don't know what we are going to do when she is no longer is easily distracted with mints; we may have to breakdown and buy her some of the weird items she falls in love with.
